Wal-Mart in Downtown Athens, Georgia

First, I was indifferent about a Wal-Mart near Downtown Athens. But then I saw where the actual placement would be and saw a visual of what it might look to have Wal-Mart located there. I now feel that it would cheapen the unique town. Even though the picture is not truly drawn to scale and highly exaggerated the actual plans still don't fit the community to have one built there.

Sure it could create some jobs and be really convenient for those who can just walk there but Wal-Mart doesn't make a better community and there is already so many located in Athens, GA...with one just being a few miles away.

While I am not screaming bloody murder...I am not jumping for joy on these Wal-Mart plans. I wish there would be some other developments for building something that would help the town and fit its unique character instead of just planting a Wal-Mart there.
